Fishful Future seeks to empower San Diego communities with the knowledge & confidence to choose, source, and prepare local seafoods. Fishful Future's educational resources are low-waste, culturally-affirming, and accessible.
Mission
Fishful Future is a digital campaign promoting awareness of locally-landed seafood in San Diego. Funded by the NOAA Saltonstall-Kennedy Grant, this one-year initiative aims to empower residents to support local fishers through informed seafood choices. Fishful Future aims to support San Diegans seeking connectivity to the local seafood system. Fishful Future knows that learning how to source and prepare local species can be daunting. A huge diversity of catch is landed in San Diego by our commercial fishing community, and much of it is unfamiliar to the average person.

Fishful Future creates and shares learning resources that will help people feel more confident in their purchases, and more connected to our unique coastal ecosystems and local seafood economy. ​
San Diego's seafood industry faces challenges from imports, rising costs, and consumer knowledge gaps. Fishful Future's address these issues by:
